Civil servants get final warning: declare your wealth by April or pay the price
The Inspectorate of Government is not messing around this time. Deputy IGG Dr Patricia Okiria Achan just told public officers in the Acholi sub-region that the five-year wealth declaration window opens in April 2026, and skipping it could land you in serious trouble. Under Section Five of the Leadership Code, everyone from top bosses to regular civil servants has to list income, assets, and liabilities. No excuses.
She held a meeting in Gulu with Chief Administrative Officers and staff, stressing that this is not optional. It is about transparency, spotting corruption early, and keeping public trust intact. Gulu Deputy CAO James Okettayot promised full compliance in his district. The message is spreading nationwide because the exercise hits every corner of government.
For ordinary Ugandans tired of hearing about graft, this sounds good on paper. But enforcement has always been the weak spot. If the IGG actually follows through with penalties, it could force real change. If not, it becomes another round of paperwork that quietly gets ignored. Either way, April is coming fast, and accounting officers are on notice to make sure their teams file on time.
