Man hacks mother to death and buries her inside the house over family land row
A truly heartbreaking story is coming out of Bulamagi Sub-county in Iganga District. Police are hunting for Anthony Kalulu after he allegedly killed his own 56-year-old mother, Bakulimya Sylvia, and buried her body inside their house following a bitter fight over land.
The incident happened on March 11 but only came to light when relatives noticed the mother had vanished. When her son Edward Kawooma went to check the house late at night he found it locked. Once they forced it open they discovered a fresh heap of soil in the mother’s bedroom, blood-stained clothes, and later her body buried right there.
Police recovered a panga, an axe and a blood-stained stick believed to have been used in the attack. The postmortem at Iganga Hospital confirmed severe head injuries.
Neighbours and local leaders say the row started when Kalulu kept demanding that his mother sign over family land so he could sell it. She refused, and things turned deadly. LC3 chairperson-elect Cyrus Wekiya called it a painful reminder of how land disputes are tearing families apart. He urged young people to stop seeing family property as their only lifeline and instead focus on building their own future through honest work.
Police have appealed to anyone who knows where Kalulu is hiding to come forward. For now the body lies in the mortuary and an entire village is left wondering how a mother-son disagreement ended in such a horrific way.
