Self-styled bishop for alleged sodomizing his 21 year barber.

Oh dear, the plot thickens for self-proclaimed Bishop Rauben Turyasingura. The Buganda Road court just committed him to the High Court for trial over claims he sodomised a 21-year-old barber during the Christmas holidays. Investigations are wrapped up, evidence is ready, and he’s cooling his heels in Luzira until they set a date.

The story the prosecution laid out is messy. The barber worked at a salon in Kawempe where the bishop became a regular. One night in late December the bishop asks the young man to meet him late at his place. Things turn ugly alleged advance, rejection, locked door, and the rest. The victim was too scared to shout, got examined later with bruises and back pain, and police even picked up an olive oil bottle and towel from the scene. The bishop, who also studies at Cavendish University, denies everything.

It’s the sort of case that makes you raise an eyebrow at the title “bishop” and shake your head at how quickly things can sour. Courts will sort the truth, but right now the barber’s trauma and the bishop’s remand tell their own story. Uganda doesn’t play around with these matters once they reach the High Court.
