The government of Sudan has strongly condemned Uganda for hosting Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), commander of the Rapid Support Forces, at State House Entebbe.
In an official statement, Sudan described the meeting as “a blatant disregard for the crimes of genocide” and accused Uganda of siding with rebel forces against the legitimate Sudanese government.
Hemedti’s visit his first major international appearance since the devastating war in Sudan began in 2023 has drawn sharp criticism from Khartoum. The conflict has already caused immense suffering, with tens of thousands killed and millions displaced.
For Uganda, this situation is delicate. While our country has a proud tradition of offering mediation and refuge, such high-profile engagements come with complex diplomatic consequences. Many Ugandans hope our leaders will continue balancing humanitarian values with the need for peaceful regional relationships.
As the war in Sudan continues, our hearts remain with the innocent civilians caught in the middle. May wisdom and compassion guide all efforts toward lasting peace.
