Prosecution wants to keep witnesses hidden in Besigye’s treason case

You know those big treason trials where everything feels a bit cloak and dagger? Well, here we are again with Dr Kizza Besigye and two others facing charges. The Director of Public Prosecutions has just asked the High Court to let six key witnesses testify under fake names think Witness A through F and hold back their full statements until a week before they show up in the box.

The state attorney behind the request says there’s real worry about intimidation. One alleged accomplice supposedly threatened a witness, and with charges this heavy, you can see why nerves are frayed. They insist it won’t hurt the defence because redacted info will still get shared. The whole thing landed in court file HCT-0335-2025, and a hearing date is coming soon.

It’s the kind of move that makes you tilt your head and wonder about balance in these political showdowns. Besigye’s team will get their say, but for now the prosecution is playing it safe. Classic Ugandan court chess protection first, full transparency later. We’ll see how the judge feels about it.
