Housing Finance Bank Positions Finance as Catalyst for Uganda’s Growth at REDI Conference

Kampala, Uganda – At the Regional Economic Development Initiative (REDI) conference in Nairobi, Housing Finance Bank (HFB) unveiled a strategic roadmap that positions finance as the primary engine driving Uganda’s sustainable growth.

In a keynote address, HFB CEO Grace Nankya highlighted the bank’s recent initiatives, including a UGX 1.2 trillion loan portfolio aimed at affordable housing, SME expansion, and green energy projects. She emphasized that “access to affordable credit is the linchpin for unlocking the potential of Uganda’s burgeoning middle class and its vibrant entrepreneurial sector.”

The bank also announced a partnership with the Ministry of Finance to launch a digital lending platform that will leverage mobile money to reach underserved rural communities. According to the presentation, the platform is expected to increase loan disbursement to rural borrowers by 35% within the next two years.

Conference attendees praised HFB’s forward‑looking approach, noting that the bank’s emphasis on inclusive finance aligns with the African Development Bank’s agenda for resilient economies post‑COVID‑19.
