American soldiers from Djibouti base now sheltering at Entebbe Airport

Hundreds of US troops who used to be based at Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti, America’s only permanent military post in Africa, have quietly been moved to Uganda. They are currently staying in temporary facilities and better quarters right at Entebbe International Airport while tensions with Iran keep rising.

The evacuation followed the killing of Iran’s supreme leader and a wave of missile attacks on American targets across the Gulf. Uganda and Kenya both stepped in as safer landing spots for now. Airport sources say the soldiers are being well looked after, though nobody from the UPDF has commented officially.

It is a reminder of how fast global conflicts can ripple all the way to our doorstep. While Museveni has called both Iran and the US “friends,” the practical side of hosting foreign troops shows Uganda’s balancing act in action. For regular Ugandans the story might feel distant, but it also highlights how connected our little corner of the world really is these days.
