Court Gives Islamic University 15 Days to Explain Why They Cancelled an MP-Elect’s Certificate

A fresh drama is unfolding in the courts that could decide whether Kitagwenda’s new MP actually takes his seat.

Robert Mugabe (yes, same name as the late Zimbabwean leader) is fighting the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) after they suddenly cancelled the Mature Entry Certificate he used to join the university years ago.

The university claims some of the academic papers he submitted for the aptitude test were fake. Mugabe says the decision was unfair and rushed, and he has dragged them to the High Court in Kampala.

Yesterday, the judge gave IUIU exactly 15 days to file their defence. After that, the real battle begins.

This case is bigger than one MP. Thousands of Ugandans enter universities through the Mature Entry scheme every year. If the court sides with the university, it could tighten rules and scare many genuine students. If Mugabe wins, it might expose sloppy verification systems in some institutions. Either way, watch this space it will affect how future leaders are made in Uganda.
