Mubende family pays ransom yet kidnapper still kills four-year-old boy

Police in Mubende recovered the body of four-year-old Kazungu Daniel from a pit latrine after his family paid part of a ransom only for the kidnapper to murder him anyway. The tragedy unfolded on March 9 when the boy vanished from his bed in Nalutete, Kigando Sub-county, while the rest of the household slept.

His father, Baingana Eric, woke early to get the children ready for school and found the back door open. Soon afterward the abductor called demanding six million shillings. The desperate family scraped together one million and sent it, hoping to save the child. Instead the suspect killed Daniel and dumped the body.

A joint team from military intelligence and the police Flying Squad tracked the suspect to Kansanga in Kampala. They arrested Muwanguzi Emmanuel, who comes from Kibaale District and later admitted the crime. On March 13 the Fire Brigade pulled the body from the latrine belonging to a neighbour, and it was taken to Mubende Hospital for examination.

The suspect now faces murder charges in court. This case has shaken the local community and shines a harsh light on child safety in rural areas where quick ransom demands can turn deadly. Police are urging everyone to stay alert and report anything strange right away, while the story serves as a painful reminder that paying does not always bring loved ones home safe.
