The race for control inside the NRM machine is heating up fast, and the Patriotic League of Uganda crew around Gen Muhoozi is not sitting quiet. Word is President Museveni will soon name a whole new mobilization team aimed at locking in support all the way to 2031. PLU wants its people in prime positions, starting with the Office of the NRM National Chairperson at Kyambogo. They are backing Hajjat Amina Nanziri Mukalazi to replace the current holder Hajjat Namyalo.
Mukalazi showed she can pull crowds by organising the big Yogayoga Jjajja celebrations after the 2026 win. She ran into cash trouble at first, but PLU structures stepped in heavy: taxi drivers under Hassan Kazibwe’s group got Shs100,000 each plus fuel to ferry people to Kololo, coordinators pocketed the same, journalists Shs50,000. Presidential advisor Faridah Nakimuli rounded up market vendors, and even some RRU folks helped move things along. The whole show was basically a live demo of what Mukalazi could do if given the national mobilization keys.
Namyalo has been clashing hard with the NRM Secretariat, throwing around accusations of sexual harassment during job hunts and misuse of funds, plus bad blood with Dr Rosemary Sseninde. That has left the door open for Mukalazi, who is already using her Naguru base to place defeated 2026 NRM candidates. Ibrahim Kitatta from Lwengo is also sniffing around the job but his past record makes him a long shot. Veteran journalist Andrew Mwenda summed it up bluntly: PLU people are set to eat big in the next setup. Museveni might shift Namyalo sideways into an advisory role like he has done with others. Bottom line, the post-2026 power shuffle is real, and PLU is playing for keeps to shape whatever comes after Museveni.
