A tragic fire ripped through a modest home in the Bunga district of Kampala early Saturday morning, claiming the lives of two children and leaving three other family members with serious injuries. Police say the blaze, which investigators suspect was deliberately set, started in the kitchen and quickly spread due to the wooden construction of the house. Firefighters arrived within minutes, but the flames had already engulfed the sleeping quarters. The victims, identified as 7‑year‑old Aisha Nansubuga and 4‑year‑old Kato Mugisha, were found unconscious in their bedroom and could not be revived despite resuscitation attempts. Their parents, both employed as market traders, are being questioned as part of a criminal investigation. Community leaders have called for an urgent review of fire safety standards in informal settlements, while the government has promised to provide immediate assistance to the grieving family.
