Parliamentary Committee Orders Arrest of Microfinance Support Centre Director Mujuni Over Massive Financial Losses

In a dramatic turn of events, the Ugandan Parliament’s Committee on Finance has issued an arrest warrant for Edwin Mujuni, the Executive Director of the Microfinance Support Centre (MSC), along with three senior officials. The move follows an audit that revealed the MSC incurred losses exceeding UGX 1.2 billion in the last fiscal year due to alleged mismanagement and unauthorized lending practices. MPs demanded immediate detention to prevent further dissipation of public funds and to facilitate a full forensic investigation. Opposition leaders called the scandal a “national embarrassment,” while the Ministry of Finance pledged to cooperate fully with law‑enforcement agencies. The arrested officials are expected to appear before the High Court next week.
