President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni officially launched Uganda’s first branded crude oil, ‘Pearl Sweet’, during a ceremony at the Uganda Oil Refinery in Kabaale. The branding initiative is part of a broader strategy to position Uganda as a premium oil exporter in the East African market. ‘Pearl Sweet’ is marketed as a high‑quality, low‑sulphur crude, suitable for refining into gasoline and diesel that meet international standards. The president highlighted that the brand will help attract foreign investment, improve trade balances, and generate revenue for national development projects. Industry analysts noted that a strong brand identity could give Uganda a competitive edge amid regional competition from Tanzania and Kenya.
