Operative Charles Rwomushana Abducted by Armed Men After Radio Simba Interview

Kigali, Rwanda – On Tuesday evening, veteran intelligence operative Charles Rwomushana was reportedly seized by a group of armed men shortly after his live interview on Radio Simba. The interview, which aired at 7:30 p.m., focused on the government’s counter‑terrorism initiatives and sparked heated discussion among listeners.

According to eyewitnesses, a convoy of dark‑painted pickup trucks entered the radio station’s parking lot as Rwomushana left the premises. Men armed with automatic rifles forced him into a vehicle and fled toward the outskirts of the city. Police arrived on the scene within ten minutes but found no trace of the operatives.

The Ministry of Internal Security condemned the abduction, calling it “a brazen attack on the rule of law” and promised a “full-scale investigation.” The president’s office issued a statement urging calm and assuring citizens that all resources would be mobilized to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Human rights groups have expressed concern that the incident could be linked to ongoing political tensions surrounding upcoming local elections, where Rwomushana has been a vocal critic of certain government policies. As of now, his whereabouts remain unknown, and his family has been notified.

The police have launched a man‑hunt, deploying additional units to the northern districts where Rwomushana was last seen heading. The incident has reignited debates about the safety of journalists and public officials in Rwanda.
