U.S. Navy Strikes Three Iranian Oil Tankers After Alleged Attack on Warships

In a coordinated operation off the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. naval forces launched missile strikes against three Iranian oil tankers—Alborz, Kaveh, and Simurgh—following credible intelligence that Iranian Navy vessels had targeted U.S. destroyers earlier in the day. The strikes, carried out by aircraft from the carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, disabled the tankers’ propulsion systems but caused no casualties. Pentagon spokesperson Lt. Col. Maria Torres stated the action was a “proportionate response to protect American personnel and maintain freedom of navigation.” Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the attack as “unjustified aggression,” while the United Nations called for restraint and an immediate de‑escalation of tensions in the region.
