Vice President Jessica Alupo arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday, joining a delegation of Ugandan officials for a series of bilateral talks before the opening of the 18th BRICS Summit in Hyderabad next week. The visit marks the first time a Ugandan vice president has led a high‑level mission to India, underscoring the deepening ties between the two nations.
Alupo’s agenda includes meetings with Indian Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar, as well as private‑sector leaders in technology, agriculture, and renewable energy. Key discussion points are expected to cover trade diversification, capacity‑building for Uganda’s emerging digital economy, and collaborative projects in solar power.
“Our partnership with India is built on shared values of development, innovation, and mutual respect,” Alupo said in a brief statement. “We look forward to expanding trade, attracting investment, and learning from India’s remarkable growth story.”
Analysts note that Alupo’s presence at the BRICS Summit could also position Uganda as a stronger voice within the bloc, especially on issues of climate finance and equitable access to technology.
