Kampala – The Ugandan government announced on Tuesday that the deadline for commencing commercial oil production has been pushed back to June 2027. The move follows intense negotiations with multinational oil firms seeking more time to complete infrastructure projects, including the construction of a pipeline to the port of Tanga, Tanzania. President Yoweri Museveni said the extension will allow the country to secure better terms, protect the environment, and ensure that local communities benefit from job creation and revenue sharing. Critics, however, warn that the delay could stall economic diversification plans and increase dependence on foreign capital.
