The Tooro Kingdom, one of Uganda’s historic monarchies, has officially set September 29 as the date for the coronation of its new king, Kaboyo Omukama Rukidi IV. The announcement was made by the kingdom’s royal council in a ceremony held at the royal palace in Fort Portal. The coronation, expected to draw dignitaries from across East Africa, will feature traditional rites, cultural performances, and a public thanksgiving service. The new monarch, who ascended the throne after the passing of his father, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi III, has pledged to focus on youth empowerment, education, and the preservation of Tooro cultural heritage. Security preparations are underway, with the Ugandan police and private security firms coordinating to ensure a peaceful event.
