Kampala, Uganda – The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) and the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company (IEC) have signed a renewed five‑year memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening the safety standards and quality control of electrical appliances across the country. The agreement outlines joint inspections, certification processes, and consumer awareness campaigns targeting counterfeit and sub‑standard products that pose fire and electrocution risks. UNBS Director General Dr. Grace Nakanwagi highlighted that the partnership will expand testing facilities and introduce a digital tracking system for imported goods. IEC Chief Executive Officer James Okwera added that the collaboration is expected to reduce power outages caused by faulty equipment and improve overall grid reliability.
