The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) announced the suspension of all joint training exercises, equipment transfers, and advisory missions with the Turkish Armed Forces. The decision follows a series of diplomatic tensions after Uganda’s parliament voted to reject a proposed arms‑sale agreement with Turkey. UPDF spokesperson Colonel James Okwiri cited “concerns over sovereignty and the need to reassess strategic partnerships” as the primary reasons for the halt. Both governments have agreed to keep diplomatic channels open while a senior delegation from Kampala reviews the terms of future cooperation.
