The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) announced the suspension of all joint training exercises, equipment transfers, and advisory missions with the Turkish Armed Forces, effective immediately. The decision follows a series of diplomatic disputes, including accusations of Turkish involvement in regional arms smuggling and differing stances on the conflict in the Horn of Africa. UPDF spokesperson Colonel James Okwir said the suspension is a “protective measure to safeguard national security interests.” Both governments have expressed a willingness to resolve the issues through diplomatic channels, but no timeline for resumption of cooperation has been set.
