In a dramatic turn of events, the Committee on Finance and Planning of the Ugandan Parliament voted unanimously on Tuesday to order the arrest of Edwin Mujuni, the Executive Director of the Microfinance Support Centre (MSC), along with three senior officials. The move follows an audit that revealed the MSC incurred losses exceeding UGX 1.2 billion in the last fiscal year, largely attributed to unauthorized loan disbursements and alleged embezzlement. Opposition MP Grace Nanyonga, who led the motion, said, “The people cannot tolerate the reckless handling of funds meant to empower small entrepreneurs.” The police have been instructed to detain the accused within 48 hours, and a special investigative panel will be set up to trace the missing funds.
