Kampala, Uganda – At the Regional Economic Development Initiative (REDI) conference in Nairobi, Housing Finance Bank (HFB) unveiled a bold roadmap positioning finance as the linchpin of Uganda’s sustainable growth agenda. In a keynote address, HFB CEO Grace Namatovu outlined a US$500 million loan‑facility aimed at expanding affordable housing, supporting small‑medium enterprises, and financing renewable‑energy projects. She emphasized that “access to capital is the most critical lever for unlocking the country’s demographic dividend.” The bank also announced a partnership with the Ministry of Finance to launch a digital credit‑scoring platform for underserved borrowers. Attendees praised the initiative as a potential game‑changer for bridging the financing gap that has hampered infrastructure development in the region.
