Uganda’s National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) have signed a five‑year cooperation agreement to harmonise product safety standards and improve market surveillance of electrical goods. The partnership will introduce joint training programmes for inspectors, adopt IEC’s latest testing protocols, and launch a digital certification platform that will streamline conformity assessment for manufacturers and importers. Officials say the collaboration will reduce the incidence of unsafe electrical products, protect consumers, and enhance Uganda’s export competitiveness in regional markets.
