The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) announced a significant increase in its asset base, reaching Shs32.8 trillion (approximately $8.7 billion) at the end of the fiscal year. The fund’s income also rose sharply to Shs6.51 trillion, driven by higher contributions, improved investment returns, and new pension schemes. Management highlighted diversification into infrastructure, real estate, and technology as key contributors to the growth. Analysts predict that continued reforms and a broader contributor base could push assets beyond Shs40 trillion within the next three years, strengthening the fund’s capacity to support retirees and fund national development projects.
