Uganda Invites Global Investors to Mineral Wealth Conference as Mining Sector Eyes Value Addition

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development is set to host the inaugural Uganda Mineral Wealth Conference (UMWC) in Kampala from October 15‑17, 2024. The event will bring together multinational mining corporations, local entrepreneurs, and development partners to explore opportunities for downstream processing and value‑addition in Uganda’s burgeoning mining sector. Officials emphasized the government’s commitment to creating a favorable investment climate, including tax incentives for beneficiation projects and streamlined licensing procedures. Key focus areas include the development of a copper‑smelting hub, rare‑earth processing facilities, and the establishment of a national standards board to ensure product quality for export markets.
