URA Chief Praises Tycoon Sudhir for Tax Leadership as Landlords Urged to Boost Rental Tax Compliance

In a high‑profile ceremony at the Uganda Revenue Authority headquarters, Chairman Charles Okwir formally commended industrialist Sudhir Patel for his exemplary tax record and recent donation of UGX 150 billion to the national development fund. Patel’s companies have consistently filed returns on time, setting a benchmark for private sector compliance. Following the commendation, Okwir launched a new outreach program targeting landlords across the country, urging them to register rental properties and remit the 10 percent rental tax. The URA plans to roll out a digital portal that simplifies filing and offers incentives, such as reduced audit frequency, for landlords who demonstrate consistent compliance. “When the private sector leads, the whole nation benefits,” Okwir said.
