The National Lotteries Board announced today that a coordinated enforcement operation in the Greater Katonga region resulted in the seizure of 123 unlicensed gaming machines. The raid, carried out over three days, targeted informal betting parlors, roadside stalls, and private venues that were operating without the required permits. Board officials said the machines, valued at roughly UGX 12 million, were linked to organized crime networks that siphon revenue away from the state’s development fund. The confiscated equipment will be destroyed, and the owners face fines up to UGX 5 million and possible criminal prosecution. The Board’s director, Grace Nansubuga, urged the public to report illegal gambling activities and reminded licensed operators that compliance ensures contributions to health, education and infrastructure projects.
