Court Dismisses Former Minister Mary Kitutu’s Appeal in Separate Karamoja Iron‑Sheet Prosecutions

The High Court upheld the lower‑court decision to reject former Minister Mary Kitutu’s appeal concerning the Karamoja iron‑sheet scandal. Kitutu had challenged the conviction of three officials accused of misappropriating government‑supplied iron sheets intended for disaster‑relief in the region. The judges ruled that the appeal lacked substantive new evidence and that the original trial had been conducted fairly. Kitutu, who served as Minister of State for Disaster Management, maintains her innocence and plans to seek a presidential pardon. The ruling has sparked renewed calls for stricter oversight of humanitarian aid distribution in northern Uganda.
