The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) and the Electricity Regulatory Authority (IEC) have signed a three‑year renewal of their collaboration aimed at improving the safety and quality of electrical goods sold across the country. The agreement expands joint inspections, introduces a new labeling scheme for certified products, and funds consumer‑awareness campaigns in major markets. Both agencies say the partnership has already reduced incidents of electrical fires by 15 % over the past two years, and they expect further declines as the new standards take effect in 2025.
