The African Export‑Import Bank (Afreximbank) disclosed that its total assets rose to $43.4 billion at the end of the first half of 2024, up from $38.9 billion a year earlier. The growth was driven by a 22 % increase in net profit, which reached $1.1 billion, and a 19 % jump in new loan commitments totaling $7.5 billion. The bank attributed the performance to heightened demand for trade financing across West and East Africa, bolstered by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) implementation. Afreximbank’s CEO highlighted the launch of several green financing facilities and digital trade platforms as key contributors. The institution reaffirmed its target to expand its loan portfolio to $12 billion by year‑end, while maintaining a strong capital adequacy ratio above 20 %.
