Kampala – A Kampala High Court magistrate released former MP Chris Obore on bail of Shs500 million after the judge ruled that the evidence presented did not justify continued detention. Obore, who is one of four individuals charged in the alleged misappropriation of Shs27 billion earmarked for parliamentary constituency development, will remain under house arrest and must report weekly to the court. Prosecutors argue that the funds were diverted to personal accounts through a network of shell companies, while Obore’s defense maintains that the transactions were legitimate contracts approved by the parliamentary oversight committee. The case, which has drawn widespread public outrage, is expected to go to trial later next year.
