Exclusive: Meet the Inaugural Winner of Fat Marmot Week – A Celebration of Culinary Creativity

Kampala, Uganda – In a quirky yet rapidly growing cultural phenomenon, Fat Marmot Week crowned its first ever champion this Saturday at the Kampala Cultural Centre. The winner, 27‑year‑old chef‑entrepreneur Aisha Nanyanzi, wowed judges with her “Marmot‑Inspired” menu, featuring a signature dish of spiced roasted pumpkin with a caramelised beetroot glaze, dubbed “Marmot’s Delight.” The week‑long festival, organized by the Uganda Culinary Association, aims to spotlight innovative, locally‑sourced gastronomy while supporting wildlife conservation initiatives. Prize money of UGX 30 million and a feature in the national newspaper were awarded to Nanyanzi, who plans to open a pop‑up restaurant that donates a portion of proceeds to the Uganda Wildlife Authority. “It’s about celebrating food, fun, and the importance of protecting our natural heritage,” she said.
