Kampala police announced on Thursday that they have apprehended five individuals suspected of operating a large-scale motorcycle theft ring in the Ndeeba suburb. The operation, which began after a surge in reports of stolen two‑wheelers, culminated in a coordinated raid that resulted in the recovery of twelve motorcycles, valued at roughly UGX 150 million combined. The suspects, aged between 19 and 32, were taken into custody at a warehouse on Kira Road where the stolen bikes were allegedly being stored before being sold on the black market. Police spokesperson Sergeant James Kato said the investigation uncovered a network that used forged documents to re‑register the stolen motorcycles under false owners. “We are committed to cracking down on organized crime that threatens the safety and property of our citizens,” Kato stated. The suspects are expected to appear before the Ndeeba magistrate court next week, and the recovered motorcycles will be returned to their rightful owners after verification of ownership documents.
