Kampala Police on Thursday announced the arrest of five individuals suspected of orchestrating a large‑scale motorcycle theft ring that targeted residents of the Ndeeba suburb last month. The operation, which began on 12 May, saw more than 30 motorcycles disappear from residential compounds and informal markets. After a week‑long investigation that involved community tip‑offs and surveillance footage, officers recovered twelve stolen motorcycles in a hidden yard on the outskirts of Ndeeba. The recovered bikes, ranging from 100 cc to 150 cc models, are being returned to their owners pending verification of ownership documents. The five suspects, aged between 22 and 34, are being held at the Ndeeba police station on charges of theft, possession of stolen property, and conspiracy. Police spokesperson Captain James Kintu said the arrests are part of a broader crackdown on organized crime in the capital, and urged citizens to report any suspicious activity. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities indicating that more arrests could follow as they trace the network’s supply chain.
