Former Koboko Speaker George Ambe Passes Away After 16 Days in ICU

George Ambe, the former Speaker of the Koboko District Assembly, died on Monday after spending sixteen days in intensive care at St. Mary’s Hospital in Arua. Ambe, 62, was admitted to the ICU on March 5 following complications from a severe respiratory infection.

Family members released a brief statement expressing grief and gratitude for the outpouring of support from community members and colleagues. “George dedicated his life to public service and the development of Koboko. He will be deeply missed,” the statement read.

Ambe served as Speaker from 2013 to 2018 and was known for his advocacy on education and infrastructure projects in the district. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday at St. Mary’s Cathedral, after which he will be laid to rest in his hometown of Kulu.

Local leaders have called for a moment of silence during the upcoming district council meeting to honor his contributions.
