Kampala – The Ministry of Education and Sports announced on Wednesday that a total of UGX 212.6 billion in higher‑education loans have been disbursed to 2,790 deserving students across the country. The loans, which cover tuition, accommodation and learning materials, are part of the government’s “Education for All” initiative aimed at increasing university enrollment among low‑income families. Recipients were selected through a transparent merit‑based system that also considered household income and academic performance. Minister Janet Nansamba praised the program, saying, “Investing in our youth’s education is investing in Uganda’s future, and these loans will enable thousands of bright minds to contribute to national development.” The loan scheme offers a 0.5 % interest rate and a grace period of two years after graduation before repayment begins.
