Kampala – In a move aimed at strengthening its retail banking arm, Housing Finance Bank (HFB) announced the appointment of veteran banker Dorothy Namutebi as the new Head of Mortgages and Consumer Banking. Nametebi, who previously served as Deputy Director of Retail Operations at Barclays Africa, brings over 15 years of experience in mortgage underwriting, product development, and customer experience.
“Dorothy’s track record of expanding mortgage portfolios in emerging markets aligns perfectly with HFB’s growth strategy,” said HFB CEO James Kiggundu at a press briefing. Under Nametebi’s leadership, the bank plans to launch a suite of digital mortgage solutions, increase loan disbursement to low‑income earners, and introduce flexible repayment schemes tailored to Uganda’s informal sector.
Industry analysts predict that the appointment could boost HFB’s market share, which currently stands at 12% of Uganda’s mortgage market, and help close the housing deficit that affects over 2 million Ugandans. Nametebi will assume her role on 1 October 2026.
