Kiboga High Court handed down a death sentence on Monday to former prison warder John Anguyo after a six‑month trial that concluded he was directly responsible for the murder of four inmates at Kiboga Central Prison in 2022. The prosecution presented forensic evidence linking Anguyo to the crime scene, while witnesses testified that he had a history of violent behavior toward prisoners. The judge, Justice Margaret Nansubuga, said the verdict was intended to send a strong message against abuse of power within Uganda’s correctional facilities. Anguyo’s legal team has indicated they will appeal the sentence to the Supreme Court, arguing procedural irregularities and claiming the death penalty violates Uganda’s constitutional guarantees.
