Los Angeles – A news‑gathering helicopter operated by NBC News crashed into a residential neighborhood in the Echo Park district early Wednesday morning, killing at least three people and injuring several others. The aircraft, a Bell 206 JetRanger, was returning from a live‑feed assignment covering a downtown protest when it reportedly lost power and descended rapidly.
Emergency responders arrived within minutes, finding the helicopter embedded in the front yard of a two‑story home. Witnesses described a loud explosion followed by flames that quickly engulfed the fuselage. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze after a prolonged effort.
The victims have been identified as a 42‑year‑old mother, her 12‑year‑old son, and a 28‑year‑old neighbor who attempted to rescue them. NBC News confirmed that two of its crew members, a pilot and a camera operator, survived with serious injuries and were airlifted to a nearby hospital.
