Parliament Orders Arrest of Microfinance Support Centre Director Mujuni Over Massive Financial Losses

In a dramatic turn of events, members of Parliament voted unanimously to sanction the arrest of Edward Mujuni, the Executive Director of the Microfinance Support Centre (MSC), alongside three senior officials. The move follows an audit that revealed the MSC suffered losses exceeding UGX 1.2 billion due to alleged misappropriation of funds and fraudulent loan approvals. Opposition MPs accused the institution of “systemic corruption” and called for a full forensic investigation. The Attorney General’s office confirmed that warrants have been issued and that the suspects will appear before the High Court next week. Civil society groups have welcomed the decision, urging further reforms to protect vulnerable borrowers.
