Parliamentary Committee Orders Arrest of Microfinance Support Centre Director Mujuni Over Massive Financial Losses

In a dramatic turn of events, the Ugandan Parliament’s Committee on Finance has moved to have the Executive Director of the Microfinance Support Centre (MSC), Mujuni, and several senior officials detained. The move follows an audit that uncovered losses exceeding UGX 1.2 billion in the centre’s last fiscal year, attributed to unauthorized loans and misappropriation of funds. Opposition MPs demanded immediate action, citing the need to restore public confidence in micro‑finance institutions that serve Uganda’s most vulnerable entrepreneurs. The Attorney General’s office is expected to file charges later this week, while the Ministry of Finance has pledged a full forensic investigation into the MSC’s operations.
