British tourism conglomerate Speke Group announced today the acquisition of four state‑of‑the‑art speedboats to service the upcoming Paradise Island resort in the Maldives. The vessels, built by Dutch shipyard Damen, can reach 45 knots and feature eco‑friendly diesel‑hybrid engines, aligning with the resort’s sustainability pledge. Speke’s CEO, Laura Cheng, said the boats will shuttle guests from Malé International Airport to the island in under 30 minutes, enhancing the luxury experience. The investment, valued at $12 million, also includes crew training programs and a partnership with local marine conservation groups to protect surrounding coral reefs.
