Fort Portal – Prince David Kiijanangoma, a prominent member of the Tooro royal family and a vocal advocate for cultural preservation, passed away on Friday after a prolonged battle with cancer. The prince, who was 48, had been receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kampala for the past year.
Prince Kiijanangoma was known for his efforts to promote Tooro language education and for his charitable work supporting youth entrepreneurship in western Uganda. In a statement released by the Royal House of Tooro, his sister, Princess Margaret, described him as “a compassionate leader whose dedication to his people will be remembered for generations.”
The royal family announced a period of mourning lasting seven days, during which flags will fly at half‑mast across the Tooro Kingdom. A memorial service is scheduled for next week at the Omukama’s palace in Fort Portal, where dignitaries, community leaders, and members of the public are expected to pay their respects.
