Tropical Storm Moke Expected to Bring Additional Flooding as Hawaii Recovers from Lala

The National Hurricane Center has upgraded Tropical Storm Moke to a Category 1 hurricane, warning that it will likely bring heavy rains and flash‑flooding to the Hawaiian Islands this weekend. The storm is projected to make landfall on the island of Maui within 48 hours, adding to the devastation already caused by Hurricane Lala, which left more than 1,200 homes damaged and disrupted power for over 200,000 residents. State officials have activated emergency shelters and urged residents in low‑lying areas to evacuate. Governor Josh Green announced a supplemental disaster aid package of $45 million to support ongoing recovery efforts, while federal agencies are preparing additional resources should Moke intensify.
