The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) has launched a major power upgrade initiative targeting the districts of Isingiro, Ntungamo and Rukungiri. The project, slated for completion by the end of 2027, will replace aging transformers, extend low‑voltage lines and install new distribution poles. The upgrade is expected to bring reliable electricity to more than 30,000 consumers, reducing outages that have plagued the region for years. Local officials say the effort will also spur economic activity, improve school performance and support small‑scale agribusinesses. UEDCL has partnered with the Ministry of Energy and the World Bank, which is providing a $12 million grant to fund the works.
