UEDCL Launches Major Power Upgrade Project to Serve Over 30,000 Households in Western Uganda

The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) began a comprehensive power‑line upgrade on Tuesday, targeting the districts of Isingiro, Ntungamo, and Rukungiri. The project, funded by a $45 million loan from the African Development Bank, will replace aging transformers, install new distribution poles, and extend the grid to reach an additional 30,000 consumers. Officials say the upgrade will reduce outages by up to 70 percent and support local economic growth, especially in the agricultural sector. Completion is slated for the end of 2027, with community outreach programs planned to educate residents on safe electricity usage.
