The Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) announced an expanded collaboration aimed at tightening safety standards for electrical goods sold in Uganda. Under the new agreement, UNBS will adopt IEC’s latest testing protocols, train local inspectors, and launch a joint certification scheme for manufacturers and importers. The partnership also includes a public awareness campaign to educate consumers on the risks of sub‑standard electrical products. UNBS Director General, Dr. John Mugisha, said the initiative will reduce fire incidents and equipment failures, while IEC President, Dr. Maria Hernandez, praised Uganda’s commitment to aligning with global safety benchmarks.
