London – The highly anticipated “Mathematics Tour” by Ed Sheeran has hit a snag after three of the scheduled opening acts announced they would withdraw in protest of a recent controversy involving rapper Macklemore. The artists, including indie folk group The Willowes, hip‑hop duo Rhyme & Reason, and singer‑songwriter Lena Ortiz, cited Macklemore’s alleged mistreatment by his record label and the lack of support for his artistic freedom as the reason for their exit.
Macklemore, who has been embroiled in a public dispute with his label over the release of a new album, has called on fellow musicians to stand with him. In a statement posted on social media, he urged artists to “use their platforms to demand fair contracts and transparent royalties.”
Sheeran’s management released a brief comment saying the tour will continue as planned and that the artist “deeply respects the convictions of his fellow musicians but remains committed to delivering a memorable experience for fans.” Ticket holders have been reassured that replacement acts will be announced shortly.
