Former Ugandan MP and human‑rights activist Dr. James Byabashaija, who spent 12 years incarcerated under the previous regime, is being honored by the North Kigezi Diocese for his perseverance and dedication to social justice. The diocese announced a fundraising drive to restore the historic Kinyasano Cathedral, a project Byabashaija has championed since his release in 2021. In a statement, Bishop John Kaggwa said the cathedral’s renovation symbolizes “the resilience of faith and the power of redemption.” Byabashaija, who continues to advocate for prison reform, will attend the dedication ceremony scheduled for next month.
